Sony just announced it will spin off its camera division in April, 2017. Newco will comprise of digital and video cameras for home and broadcast markets.
This move follows the earlier spin-off of its TV unit. It is part of the company's ongoing efforts to streamline its business.

It will be a wholly owned subsidiary and the reason given in the Nikkei Asian Review is "to speed up the decision-making process and clarify accountability".

Not really anything to get excited about... All to do with cost cutting and tax dodging. Can't see it will really have much of an impact on the production of cameras or lenses.
